Southwark Pensioners Centre welcomed over 100 guests to its very first Texan Tea Party!

Held at Elephant Park as part of Lendlease’s summer series, The Worshipful Mayor of Southwark, Councillor Catherine Rose, opened proceedings, welcoming guests and commending our work in the community.

SPC’s very own line dancers entertained guests who included members of SPC, friends from Golden Oldies Community Project and Pembroke House, encouraging many to get their feet moving and toes tapping including our very own Chair, Cllr Charlie Smith, former Mayor of Southwark.

David Murray, DJ, kept party goers moving and happy despite the fierce sun. A healthy meal of assorted sandwiches, fruit and cake (!) washed down with huge amounts of tea, fruit juice and water served by volunteers from Legal and General Investment made for a happy, sociable, enjoyable meal.

People were really happy and described it as ‘really enjoyable’ and ‘fantastic’.

We couldn’t have done it without the major support of Lendlease who sponsored the Texan Tea Party, Legal and General Investment who provided many volunteers. We also really appreciated the help from Lost Rivers Elephant and Sainsbury’s.

In particular, we thank John Whelan, the Lendlease Summer Series Project Manager at Elephant Park, and Barbara, Trustee at SPC who led on the project.

Lastly, we thank all the members, staff, trustees of Southwark Pensioners Centre and volunteers from the community who made it such a special day.
