We were delighted to re-launch the Centre on Wednesday the 9th of April amongst many VIP’s, friends, supporters and members plus trustees.
It was standing room only as we celebrated an important milestone for us. The Centre has been refurbished and re-painted, with newly installed state of the art television sets in the reception area and the garden room. New signage is about to be installed and our logo will go on the reception. And maybe more importantly the ethos of the SPC as a caring and friendly place to be at is once more at the forefront.
Our offer to members has been improved, we have additional and different classes and people who attended the re-launch were treated to taster sessions including jewellery making and griot story-telling! If you want to know what griot story-telling is – sign up at the Centre! But we are still open to suggestions of how we can do things differently – and better!
We really want to thank our patrons who attended, Harriet Harman MP, Simon Hughes MP, and Tessa Jowell MP who although in America sent us a lovely message of support. They all spoke of the important work we do and our need to move to larger premises. Thank you also to Cllr. Ian Wingfield, the deputy Leader of Southwark Council, Cllr. Sunil Chopra and his wife the deputy Mayor and Mayoress of Southwark and all the representatives of a vast array of organisations who made the time to be with us. But most importantly of all thank you to all the members who joined us and demonstrated just how important the Centre is to them. Thank you!
