Health & Wellbeing
We will continue to actively promote the health and wellbeing of older people so that they enjoy healthy, independent, active, in touch and fulfilling lives through activities, holidays, day trips, health promotion events and member support. We seek to prevent or reduce deterioration in the mental health and wellbeing of older people.
We wish to support you to manage any health conditions that you may have as much as you can yourself and help you to be as healthy as possible.
There is no doubt that being active helps you to stay well. Here at Southwark Pensioners Centre, we have plenty of sessions that will get you more active, improve your balance, strength and coordination. Come and find an activity that you enjoy and make it a part of your life.
A lot of what we offer will allow you to be express yourself in new, unique ways and keep learning by trying new things and making new friends. The section below contains specific activities that we have termed creative. Come and try them out.
Music is wonderful for firing up and engaging your brain, tapping into emotions and memories, bringing joy and pleasure and a sense of control over life. We believe that you will love singing with the choir, playing the recorder, taking part in our music and reminiscence sessions or dancing in our disco!
Just want a cup of tea and a chat? Want some friendly company? Our social sessions are fun and engaging allowing you to connect with new people who we hope will become friends.
Outings and holidays are very popular with members and users. Getting out in the fresh air, visiting new places or familiar places in the security of a group is very appealing to many and places go very quickly. Watch out for details in our One in 5 newsletter or the Southwark Explorers programme. We are very lucky and occasionally individuals and organisations offer us free trips, eg, to the Shard, or on a red routemaster bus. When these opportunities come up we advertise them in the centre and we prioritise members.
